There’s a problem with Battlefield 2042’s hit registration

If you wondered why sometimes your bullets in Battlefield 2042 don’t exactly hit your target when it clearly does in your screen, it’s because the game is currently suffering from an inconsistent hit registration issue. When firing any gun, it seems this bug occurs more often when you’re in a crowded area with so many things happening, and a content creator perfectly demonstrates the issue in his video.

Youtuber Jackfrags was able to perfectly recreate the hit registration issue in his video above. He attempted to demonstrate the hit registration issue with a custom solo game filled with just bots. During the experiment, Jackfrags stated that his ping is 10ms and there was no packet loss happening during the test. When bots started gathering in the area, he began the test by shooting at them in a close but safe location, showing how some bullets failed to get a hit registration despite him clearly aiming at his target, even firing his weapon in short bursts.  The issue becomes more frequent when the bots start doing multiple actions such as throwing smoke grenades, reviving, shooting, etc. The issue simply becomes apparent when there’s too much happening in one space.

DICE devs acknowledge this issue and have stated in social media that they have a fix for the issue. But players will just have to wait a little bit longer as there’s currently no release window for the fix. Hopefully it comes sooner rather than later.

Battlefield 2042 is not in a great state for many reasons and while DICE did release a significant patch to fix numerous issues — like toning down the power of the notorious hovercraft vehicle — the hit registration being off at times still remains in the game.

With my time with the game, Battlefield 2042 feels like a complete miss and when I thought this game needed to be delayed based on what I played in the beta, it clearly needed it as the Battlefield community is again going through rough game launch that sadly feels all too familiar.

Battlefield 2042 is now available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
