PS3 and PS Vita PlayStation Stores Shutting Down in 2027
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that it will be shutting down the PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita, with global closures taking effect in July 2027. Simply put, players on those platforms will no longer be able to purchase digital games and DLC for their systems.
Here’s the official statement from the announcement:
“After nearly two decades of supporting the PS3 console generation, we wanted to let you know we will be closing the PlayStation Store on PS3, as well as on PS Vita. PlayStation Store on PS3 will close in select markets starting this year, followed by global closures for PS3 and PS Vita next year. That means new content purchases will no longer be possible once the PlayStation Store closes on these devices. To ease the transition, players will still be able to download previously purchased content after the closing date for the foreseeable future.”
Previously purchased content will remain downloadable after shutdown
Despite the shutdown, players who wish to redownload owned titles and content will still be able to do so after the storefronts close.
When exactly is PS3 and PS Vita PlayStation Store closing in my region?
While most regions won't see the shutdown take effect until next year, a few markets are closing earlier. Sony says this is because PS3 and PS Vita can no longer support updated payment processing standards required to keep the storefront running in those countries:
Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua – PlayStation Store on PS3 will close starting August 2026.
Additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries – PlayStation Store on PS3 will close starting late 2026.
All other countries – PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita will close in July 2027.
This isn’t the only major news from Sony, as they also announced that they will end disc production for new PlayStation games in January 2028, and that’s a major concern for Filipino gamers in the Philippines considering that we don’t have an official PlayStation Store.
