Persona 5: The Phantom X Announced for iOS and Android Devices

Publisher Perfect World Games and developer Black Wings Game Studio have officially announced Persona 5: The Phantom X for iOS and Android devices. It’s a free-to-play title with item-based in-app purchases that delivers the same gameplay experience as the original game with a new set of characters.

Gematsu first broke the news, revealing a playtest is planned on March 29 in China. It was also confirmed through Gematsu’s translation that the upcoming playtest will be held on PC and Android devices for now, even though the official announcement has no mention of the PC version of the game.

It is said that SEGA and Atlus’ P-Studio is supervising the development of the title, providing resources for the game while Perfect World and Black Wings Game Studio will be in charge of development, distribution, and operating the title.

Phantom X is set in Tokyo and follows a new batch of Phantom Thieves that were able to unleash their inner personas. They go on about as being a student, attending class, participate in various activities, then infiltrating different palaces after. The turn-based and daily gameplay the series is known for is intact in this free-to-play title, even down to the game’s UI and animation, as if it was stripped from Persona 5 itself.

At the end of the gameplay trailer, Persona 5’s protagonist Joker was teased, so it’s likely Phantom X’s overall narrative will connect in somewhat with the original game.

As for it being a free-to-play title, It’s not clear how aggressive the game’s monetization will be for this title just yet, or how restricted it will be. It is also not confirmed if this will be given a western release or if it will be available in different parts of Asia with localization support.

So far, China is the only confirmed region.

This project was first teased by publisher Perfect World way back in 2021 under the name Code Name: X.
