Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date Moved Up to Sept 4

Capcom is now releasing Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 4, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC. That's two weeks earlier than its previous release date of September 25, 2026.

No real reason was given, but an earlier release is better than a delay.

Due to this change, the pre-order bonus for the digital version of the game will be changed to an Early Adopter Bonus, available during the distribution periods specified below:

• PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series X|S / Windows / Nintendo Switch 2: Until 24th September 2026, 11:59 pm local time

• Steam / Epic Games: Until 26th September 2026, 07:59 pm GMT+8

Pre-orders for the Switch 2 Version Affected

Thanks to the game now releasing a few weeks earlier, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 digital version will be automatically cancelled, so those who pre-ordered the game will have to set up a new pre-order on the Nintendo eShop.

Capcom also announced that the game's playable demo will receive an update to address the change (showing a new release date, etc.), but no new content will be added, so don't get excited if you have the demo installed and see an update downloading. Players who have save data from the demo will still receive the bonus in the full game.

If you haven't played the demo of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, you should give it a go. It's less than 30 minutes of your time, but more than enough to give you a good idea of what type of game it is, as I enjoyed what little time I had with it.
