The grounded first-person shooter Hell Let Loose has received a major new patch, with Update 18 now live across all platforms. This update not only brings gameplay adjustments and quality-of-life improvements but also delivers a complete refresh of the Stalingrad map, giving it an entirely new feel.

The Stalingrad Refresh

The biggest highlight of Update 18 is the Stalingrad refresh, as developer Expression Games overhauled several key areas of the map. Players can expect more defined offensive and defensive positions, with formerly open spaces transformed into new combat zones that encourage close engagements.

Key structures have been reworked, and ambient VFX and lighting were fine-tuned for better visual fidelity and smoother performance during large-scale battles.

Armor Rework

Another major addition is the comprehensive armor rework.

Light and medium tanks have been given much-needed attention, balancing them more effectively against heavy armor. Tanks now traverse trenches more smoothly, feature improved physics, and respond more dynamically to terrain. Mud, snow, and sand now affect mobility and traction, adding new layers of strategy to vehicle movement.

Immersion has also been enhanced with better interior audio and realistic cannon recoil, giving players a stronger sense of being inside a tank.

Smarter Repairs

Vehicle repairs have been completely reworked. Previously, the engine was always prioritized when using the repair torch, regardless of player intent. Now, Engineers and Tank Crewmen can choose which component to fix first. You can go for the tank’s tracks for a quick retreat, or the turret for that extra firepower during a last stand.

New Technician Loadout and more

A new Technician loadout has been introduced, allowing players to construct barricades, repair stations, and deploy ammo depots to support their team.

The patch also adds a new Salvage mechanic, letting players use the hammer tool to reclaim resources from destroyed vehicles, regardless of which team they belonged to.

Commanders now have access to a powerful Artillery Strike ability, and vehicle cosmetics have been added for more customization options.

Update 18 also includes a long list of quality-of-life improvements, such as the ability to adjust Field of View while aiming down sights, UI refinements, and numerous smaller fixes that enhance the overall gameplay experience.

The developers aren’t slowing down. Update 19, set to launch this November, will introduce Smolensk 1943, the game’s largest urban map yet.

Expression Games is also continuing work on Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, a standalone title featuring the same 50v50 battles, but now set during the Vietnam War. It’s slated for release in 2026.
