Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Announced for the PS5

During a livestream celebrating 2th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII the Final Fantasy VII , Square Enix announced Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake. A new trailer for the second game was released and gave us our first look at the game running on the PS5. The game is set for a winter 2023 release.

It’s a short teaser as we see Cloud and Sephiroth trekking through mountainous terrain. If memory serves, this is the point in the game where Cloud explains to their group what happened in his home town of Nibelheim way back and their discovery in the Mako reactor built nearby. It then ends with Zack bringing an unconscious cloud back to Midgar.

In a statement following the game’s announcement, creative director Tetsuya Nomura said that “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is being designed so that people can enjoy this game whether they know the original game or not. “In fact, new players might even enjoy starting their Final Fantasy VII journey with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Cloud and his friends embark on a new journey in this game, and I believe that the scenes that they witness after leaving Midgar will give players a fresh, new experience.”

The developers also confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be the second game in the planned trilogy and that Rebirth is currently in full production. While the team is hard at work in the sequel, some work for the third and final game in the reimagining trilogy is already being worked on.

Final Fantasy VII Remake released in 2020 for the PS4. A year later, the PS5 version, Final Fantasy VII Intergrade was released adding in visual upgrades and features as well as new story DLC featuring Yuffie. The game eventually hit PC via the Epic Games Store and will now also be available through steam this week, on June 17.
