Borderlands 4 Release Bumped Up; GTA VI Speculation Swirls
/Gearbox Software has announced that Borderlands 4 will now launch earlier than expected, shifting its release date from September 23 to September 12, 2025.
Borderlands 4 Will Be Featured in PlayStation State of Play
Alongside the updated launch date, Gearbox confirmed that Borderlands 4 will be the focus of an upcoming PlayStation State of Play broadcast on April 30 at 5 PM ET. The presentation is expected to run for 20 minutes and will showcase a fresh look at weapons, abilities, missions, and more.
Avoiding GTA VI’s Blast Zone?
Following the announcement, some fans and industry watchers are speculating that the change might be a strategic move by both 2K Games and Gearbox Software to avoid clashing with the long-awaited release of Grand Theft Auto VI. While GTA VI is still officially set for a 2025 release, many believe Rockstar may be targeting a Fall window—possibly late September or early October.
With just one trailer shown and no follow-up announcement as of May, a Fall release seems increasingly likely. If we had to guess, sometime in October would be ideal for Take-Two Interactive to give Borderlands 4 a good enough gap before the big one arrives.
Considering Gearbox and Rockstar both fall under the Take-Two Interactive umbrella, this kind of internal coordination wouldn’t be too far-fetched.
Platforms and Switch 2 Release
Borderlands 4 will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A Switch 2 version is also planned, though it’s expected to arrive at a later date.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows greatly blends the classic Assassin’s Creed stealth with the RPG elements of recent entries. Its dynamic world, seasonal changes, and improved stealth mechanics make exploration a joy, but Yasuke’s restrictive gameplay, overall story, and a half-baked notoriety system hold it back.
