Back 4 Blood’s first expansion will launch this April

Turtle Rock Studios have detailed the first Back 4 Blood expansion titled Tunnels of Terror, which is set to launch on April 12. The expansion adds three new warped Ridden, two new Cleaners, eight exclusive skins, a new PvE activity, and more.

The reveal of the Tunnels of Terror expansion was alongside Turtle Rock Studios announcement that over 10 million players have played the 4-player co-op zombie shooter since it was released back in October 2021. The developers didn’t specify if this included numbers from Xbox Game Pass but I'll assume it is as this was available on day one for all subscribers of the service on PC and Xbox.

The first expansion will be part of the Back 4 Blood: Ultimate Edition, Deluxe Edition, and the game’s annual pass. In case you didn’t get any of what was mentioned, the expansion can be purchased separately.

For the new activity coming to the expansion called Ridden Hives, players get to explore seven different dungeons below Evansburgh where a new type of Ridden called the Warped Ridden will be waiting.

For the new Cleaners the developers didn’t go into detail about their abilities but Sharice is a firefighter equipped with an axe, so it’s best to assume she will be melee-focused. While Heng, on the other hand, there’s no detail on what he provides for the team, though it's said that he’s restaurateur.

The launch of the first expansion also means the launch of the No Hope difficulty setting, a free update that adds another layer to challenge veteran Cleaners that have done all the game has to offer at this point. The expansion will also feature eight new character skins, seven legendary weapons and 12 new weapon skins, new cards, and more.

For those enjoying the PvP side of Back 4 Blood will be pleased to know that the new Ridden coming to the game through the expansion will be available for Swarm Mode as well.

Take note that Turtle Rock Studios states that at least one player in your party is required to have access to all the content in the new expansion, so there shouldn’t be a big divide of people unable to play new content when you use the game’s matchmaking.

Back 4 Blood is a 4-player co-op zombie shooter now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.
