SUDA51 and SWERY’s Hotel Barcelona Gets September 26 Release Date
/Hotel Barcelona Release Date Confirmed
During the Xbox @ Gamescom broadcast, publisher Cult Games and developer White Owls announced that Hotel Barcelona, a sidescrolling roguelite action game from Japanese creators SUDA51 (No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw) and SWERY (Deadly Premonition), is set to release on September 26.
You play as Justine, who happens to wake up in a twisted hotel that has been taken over by serial killers. Everything about it is a mind trip, from its unique anime art style, the music, and the level design.
As a roguelite, expect frequent deaths, since failure is woven into its core progression. One standout mechanic is the inclusion of Slasher Phantoms, spirits that mimic your actions from previous runs, adding layers of challenge and strategy. Players can experiment with different builds across runs, using nearly 100 unlockable weapons and various upgrades.
Hotel Barcelona has been in development for years, first revealed in 2023 during the Tokyo Game Show. The game was initially planned for an early 2024 release but was delayed to 2025 for additional polish and bug testing. A demo was featured during the Steam Next Fest in June.
Hotel Barcelona will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam.
This type of game design just doesn’t appeal to everyone, so while I can’t give this collection a perfect score, it is a must-buy for fans of old-school shooters.
