Battlefield 3: Gulf of Oman Trailer

Battlefield 3 expansion packIf you got yourself a copy of the Limited Edition of Battlefield 3, then that free expansion pack that was promised inside your copy is coming real soon. Check out the new trailer coming from DICE showing one of the new maps aslo showcasing the added vehicles in the game. Thank god for that harrier type jet.

Back to Karkand will include 4 maps, 10 new weapons, 3 new vehicles, a new game mode called Conquest Assault, and a feature called assignments which is another way to unlock weapons. I believe most Battlefield 3 players have a copy of the limited Edition, but just in case you don't, you'll have to cough up $14.99 to get this expansion pack.

The expansion pack will come sometime in December with the Playstation 3 version getting it first a week earlier.

If you want a more detail about what certain weapons and vehicles are being included, check out the BF3 Blog.

Battlefield 3's first expansion coming in December

This whole week for me in gaming is all about Battlefield 3. I still want to create my second character in Dark Souls and possibly get that Platinum, but that will have to wait thanks to this addicting multiplayer, plus the single player is still untouched! EA announced that the first expansion, Back to Karkand(included in the Limited Edition) is coming in December. Just a few weeks away and we get four new maps to play in? This game will be near my PS3 for a long time.

Sadly they're not really new maps, they are maps from previous Battlefield games remastered for Battlefield 3.  Now it still sounds like a good deal for people who have to purchase the expansion pack. The four maps are: Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula. It will also include extra dog tags, trophies/achievements, and new vehicles:  DPV, BTR-90, and F-35B STOVL jet fighter. They will also include additional weapons from the old Battlefield games.

Limited Edition owners of course will get this pack for free, but for those that didn't pre-order, you'll have to pay to get it.

Have a look at these fresh new screenshots of the Back to Karkand:

PS3 players will get Battlefield 3 DLC first, Open Beta also announced

Battlefield 3While Xbox 360 players get first access to Call of Duty DLC, Battlefield 3 DLC will be released in the PS3 a week earlier before the Xbox 360. A week isn't so bad compared to Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC getting released on the Xbox 360 a month earlier.

Tommy Rydling, junior product manager for Battlefield 3 announced it on the official Playstation Blog. Whats the first DLC? it's called Back to Karkand and is said to be released sometime this year. The DLC will provide 4 famous maps from Battlefield 2. I was expecting this to happen for the PS3 since Xbox 360 is already all over the Call of Duty franchise, but this 1 week early access is honestly nothing to the 1 month early access in the Xbox 360 for Black Ops. With Modern Warefare 3, I Wouldn't be surprised if they continue releasing DLCs to 360 players a month earlier. This isn't the only news from the post, they also announced that the open beta of Battlefield 3 will be out on the PSN for download. The Open Beta starts on September 29th to October 10th.

If you actually purchased the Limited Edition of Medal of Honor then you can get into the Open Beta a week earlier. So owners of the Limited Edition can test Battlefield 3 on September 27, 2 days earlier.

There will only be one map I believe for the Open Beta, and that will be Operation Metro, the map they always use to show off the multiplayer part of Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 3 will be out on October 25 in NA, 27 for Australia, and 28 for Europe. With Datablitz having pre-orders for Battlefield 3, the game release for the Philippines will be Oct 25.
