Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties Announced for 2026
/During the RGG Summit 2025, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio officially announced Yakuza Kiwami 3. Alongside it, the studio revealed a brand-new spin-off bundled with the remake: Dark Ties.
Kiwami 3 is a remake of the third mainline Yakuza game, which felt inevitable given the success of Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2. The real surprise, however, is Dark Ties, a side story set in Kamurocho with Yoshitaka Mine as the playable protagonist.
Spin-off Title Focuses on Yoshitaka Mine
The developers clarified that Dark Ties is a standalone title, not integrated into Kiwami 3. Both games are simply bundled together, and players can choose which one to play from the main menu.
“It’s going to tell the original story of Mine, who’s the antagonist standing in the way of Kiryu in the original Yakuza 3, and it’s about how he begins to step into the underworld, where schemes and bonds unfold,” said studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama.
For those unfamiliar, Mine is the main antagonist of Yakuza 3. As the safekeeper of the Tojo Clan, he’s a formidable fighter who pushes Kiryu to his limits. Dark Ties explores his rise within the criminal underworld, adding new depth and context to the story of Kiwami 3.
