Resident Evil 9: Requiem Ends Summer Game Fest 2025
/The 2025 Summer Game Fest has concluded, clocking in at nearly two hours with a mix of big-name and indie games spanning multiple genres. The event really feels like it’s trying to fill the void now that E3 is gone, with major companies using the stage for high-impact announcements. Capcom made one of the biggest splashes this year, closing the show with our first look at the next mainline Resident Evil entry—Resident Evil 9, officially titled Resident Evil: Requiem.
Naturally, not much is known about the game just yet. But just to be clear, it’s confirmed to be a mainline title, not a spin-off of any sort. Based on the reveal, the story seems to revolve around Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft. Alyssa first appeared in Resident Evil Outbreak, a PlayStation 2 game released in 2003. While Outbreak was long considered non-canon, it appears Capcom may be changing that.
The game also seems to revisit one of the franchise’s most iconic locations: Raccoon City. However, the city now appears as a massive crater, an aftermath of the events from Resident Evil 2.
Resident Evil: Requiem is running on the RE Engine, a look that’s hard to miss nowadays when it comes to Capcom, as they use the same tech powering most of their recent flagship titles. It’s still unclear whether this entry will take a first-person or third-person approach, as both have been used across remakes and the latest mainline games. Regardless, the game looks to retain a strong horror tone.
The trailer ended with a release date: February 27, 2026. Expect more updates in the months ahead.
