PC Game Pass Is Celebrating Its 1st Anniversary in SEA, Philippines Is Top in Most Hours Played

It’s now been over a year since Xbox expanded its PC Game Pass service to Southeast Asia, making hundreds of titles available to players in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines for a monthly subscription. Since then, there have been signs of growth in the region as Xbox announced that Game Pass members have doubled in the past two years.

Just in Southeast Asia alone, over 12 million achievements have been achieved with the Philippines having the most hours played on average. The most popular genres for the region are multiplayer online co-op names such as the Survival game Grounded and Sea of Thieves.

“We’ve come a long way since we launched the PC Game Pass in SEA a year ago – this one-year anniversary is a celebration of all the support that Xbox has received from our SEA players. We are at the forefront of the world’s most exciting art form and games are truly powerful in connecting people across borders, languages, and different cultures. Our work only comes to life because of the joy that our players experience and here in Southeast Asia, you have made our passion even stronger.” said Jeremy Hinton, Asia Business Director, Xbox. Hinton also showed their commitment to supporting the local SEA developers through Xbox ID@Xbox program, a program that assists indie games to get published on Windows and Xbox.

To further support Xbox’s growth in the region through Game Pass, new controllers are officially launching in the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia, with new colors in Thailand and Vietnam.

There are a lot of contributing factors to the growth of PC Game Pass in Southeast Asia. One is the day-one release, which simply means new titles become available to all Game Pass subscribers on the title’s official release. Just to name a few, day-one releases this year were Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Minecraft: Legends, Atomic Heart, and Arkane’s Redfall which launched this May.

Another major contributor could be Xbox’s current deal with Riot, as PC Game Pass subscribers gain access to locked content such as champions/Agents in free-to-play games such as Valorant, League of Legends, and Teamfight Tactics, a big deal considering how big these games are in Southeast Asia.

I’ve been subscribed to PC Game Pass since it became available and it’s been great so far. It’s really hard to pass up a monthly subscription of just P120 for access to hundreds of games, so it’s great to hear things are looking good for Xbox and it’s likely we’ll see more of a presence from them here in the future.
