Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo Expanded, Also Now on Switch 2

Capcom announced that the playable demo for its upcoming game Onimusha: Way of the Sword has been expanded with new content and is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2 and Microsoft Store.

We also got two new trailers for the game, one showcasing several of its boss encounters, Musashi’s Oni Awakening form, and the other giving us a look at the new area included in the expanded demo.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo Adds New Area

The updated demo allows players to explore the Oni Refuge area, giving players another chance to get a feel for the game’s combat and parry mechanics. The new area ends with a confrontation against Daidara, one of the game’s many bosses.

I’ll be revisiting the demo myself, as I previously tried it out and gave my impressions when it first dropped in June.

The demo does a good job of showing how the game will play. This is important because it would be easy for someone unfamiliar with the series to assume that the game is another soulslike, as there are too many games like it nowadays. It isn’t. The combat is less methodical and punishing, while its areas are more mission-based, with the combat leaning heavily on parrying attacks. Overall, it feels much more aligned with how the previous games in the series played.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to release on September 4, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store), and Switch 2.
