New Mortal Kombat 1 Trailer Introduces Smoke and Rain
Warner Bros. Games and developer NetherRealm Studios released a new trailer for their upcoming fighting game Mortal Kombat 1, highlighting the Lin Kuei clan and introducing two new playable characters for the game — Smoke and Rain, while showcasing new Kameo fighters like Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion.
The game is shaping up pretty well as it greatly reminds me of Marvel versus Capcom 1 where you have a singular character with one assist to help in the form of combo extenders.
Speaking of Kameo Fighters, series creator Ed Boon confirmed that all Kameo Fighters are ‘non-canon’ meaning you can play the playable Scorpion but also pick a Kameo version of Scorpion, which makes sense as to why they have Cyrax as a Kameo Fighter. This also gives them the opportunity to get other characters from the past for the sake of nostalgia.
Despite NetherRealm Studios only announcing Mortal Kombat 1 back in May, they have been working on this game for years as it’s still set to release on September 19, 2023. This is considered a reboot for the series as Liu Kang used his new godlike powers earned in the last game to reshape the world in his own image.
Code Vein 2 delivers serviceable soulslike combat and flexible builds, but its bloated systems, uninspired open world, and inconsistent performance keep it from standing out in an already crowded genre. It definitely has ambition, but many of its ideas feel more like background noise than meaningful twists, leaving the sequel competent but ultimately forgettable.
