Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Rise will receive an expansion called Sunbreak and it’s planned to be released in summer of 2022. The reveal was made during Nintendo’s September 2021 Nintendo Direct presentation.

During the presentation, it was described by Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi as a “massive” expansion for Monster Hunter Rise. Expect new stories, quest rank, locales, and of course new monsters to hunt.

Monster Hunter Rise on PC?

As reported by pcgamer, it looks like Monster Hunter Rise and the expansion will be coming to PC at the same time Sunbreak launches on the Nintendo Switch. The release of a PC version of Rise was confirmed by a blog post  from Capcom. It’s a different approach this time around as it seems they want both versions of the game to be updated simultaneously, not like how they handled Monster Hunter World on the PC. World’s expansion, Iceborne, was released on the PC four months after the expansion was available on consoles.

Information about the upcoming expansion is a bit scarce at the moment but we’ll know more about Sunbreak during Capcom’s presentation during the online-only Tokyo Game Show on September 30.

Monster Hunter Rise players have been given a steady stream of new free content from Capcom recently. The Mega Man 11 crossover quest event launches today which adds the robotic dog Rush as Palamute layered armor. Last month, there was a Street Fighter crossover event that made players look like Akuma as their monsters.

Rise is doing fairly well since it launched in March of this year. It only took the Switch exclusive three days to reach the 4 million sales mark, an impressive number for a title released only on one platform. For comparison, Monster Hunter World reached 5 million sales in the same timeframe when it launched on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One back in 2018.

Monster Hunter Rise is currently available only on the Nintendo Switch.
