Legends of Amberland II: The Song of Trees Launches on Switch

Legends of Amberland II: The Song of Trees Now Available on the Switch digitally.

Publisher Pineapple Works and Polish developer Silver Lemur Games have launched Legends of Amberland II: The Song of Trees on the Nintendo Switch digitally. The RPG is priced at $19.99 USD/EUR and is currently available at a 15% discount for a limited time.

Fans of classic RPGs from the 90s, especially those who loved Might & Magic, Wizardry, or Ultima Underworld, may find a lot to enjoy in the Legends of Amberland series. The sequel embraces old-school design with a first-person perspective, grid-based movement, and a turn-based system, all wrapped in a retro-inspired visual style.

What is Legends of Amberland II: The Song of Trees?

You lead a party of seven adventurers (either pre-made or manually assembled by the player) on an epic quest to confront the evil that lurks in Amberland. The game is designed to be approachable, meaning it doesn’t rely on endless grinding to see it through, or at least that’s what the information sent over suggests. In fact, that got me curious, so I looked up the game length through How Long to Beat. According to players, you can expect to spend over 10 hours with the game, or closer to 20 hours if you’re going for 100% completion. A respectable length considering its old-school design and today’s RPG standards.

Key Features

  • First person perspective, 90 degree rotation, over grid movement

  • Turn-based (both combat and exploration).

  • Party-based (7 heroes, either predefined or manually assembled upon new game).

  • Fast paced combat, especially blazing fast against much weaker enemies.

  • Quick travel to reduce backtracking.

  • Easy inventory management with separate personal equipment encumbrance system and an infinite magic bag of carrying for items not equipped at the moment.

  • Open world with a big overworld to explore.

  • Quests (including both main storyline quests and side quests).

  • Rich world lore (spanning between all games of the series, but no knowledge of prior games required).

Legends of Amberland II: The Song of Trees has been out on Steam since 2023 and has garnered ‘Very Positive’ user reviews after over 100 entries.
