MMOs Live On, Guild Wars 3 Announced at Summer Game Fest 2026

Guild Wars 3 announced at Summer Game Fest 2026

Summer Game Fest 2026 revealed Guild Wars 3, what developer ArenaNet is calling the next evolution of the MMO experience.

Movement seems to be an integral component of Guild Wars 3, as this is what is written in the game's Steam page:

“Become a Vaelwarden, a guardian of the land of Orr, protector of the people and spirits that call Orr home. Discover untold stories and forge lasting bonds with your fellow players as you glide, leap, sprint, and ride your way across a frontier with adventure around every corner.

Glide, ride, and wall-run your way across the open world with a movement and momentum system unlike any other MMORPG. When you ride across Orr, you'll do so in style on your Seeker—a Vael spirit who serves as your mount and your direct connection to the magic of Orr.”

“For the first time ever, you can experience the world of Tyria on both PC and PlayStation 5. We've built a combat system designed to feel incredible no matter how you play, whether you use a controller or a mouse and keyboard. This is a game built to bring the magic of Tyria to life, where you will master a combat system that emphasizes strategic skill use, positioning, and movement, and where action RPG combat meets Guild Wars build-making—creating a unique combat experience.”

I've been playing Guild Wars 2 on and off for years, and with it being set in Orr, it tells me this could very much be a prequel to the first two games. Orr is a vital area in this world, and in the current game it’s explorable but in complete ruin. We'll have to wait and see, as ArenaNet is planning to detail the timeline and further explain the setting in the coming weeks.

Guild Wars 3 beta happening in fall 2027, Guild Wars 2 support will continue

Together with the reveal, ArenaNet announced that a Guild Wars 3 beta is planned for fall 2027, which makes me believe the rest of 2026 will be the studio slowly revealing more about the MMO as we get closer to players giving it a try. The game's official website is live.

They also confirmed that despite the new game announcement, both Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars Reforged will still be supported, as the studio plans to work on all three titles simultaneously.

Guild Wars 3 will be available on PC and PS5.

ArenaNet will be releasing a video update later today and will host a follow-up livestream on June 9 to share more about what was revealed so far.
