RGP # 16 - Who let the dogs out?

Random Gaming Post # 16

If ya'll didn't know, we here at TMG are fans of 4playerpodcast and their hilarious antics. One in particular convinced me to get a game I might have never even thought of getting, let alone enjoy. That game is Just Dance for the Nintendo Wii.

David Liao played it live on their Justin.TV feed with the camera pointed on him as he mirrors dances moves from the game while wearing an HMD shirt from Viewtiful Joe. And yes, that IS Surfin' Bird you hear at the end of the video.

Weekend, what are you playing?

We enter into the month of May and with the PlayStation Network still down, meaning that all PS3 owners have no online fun for 2 weekends now. Still, people nowadays usually have more than one means of playing a video game here or there. So, what are you playing this weekend?

Migoy: Still fighting the good fight in Dissidia 012 Duodecim: Final Fantasy. 50+ hours in and halfway through Scenario 000. Grinding with other characters on Quick Party battles on the side. I have a few PSX titles on my PSP which I got before the great PSN crash of 2011. Also found a few older PSX titles such as the 3 Road Rash games and Harry Potter 1. A bit of nostalgia gaming. I also found a GameCube memory card at Datablitz which I bought in a heartbeat and tested it by revisiting Mortal Kombat Deception, that game controls like butt.

Quash: Finally sat down and finished Crysis 2 yesterday. It was a great game overall and i'm thinking of making a review about it. Since Crysis 2 is out of the way i think i'll continue with Portal 2, i just started and hoping to finish this too by today. It was said to be arund 6-8 hours long but of course it all depends if i fail in some of the test chambers.

Arlie: Still playing Patapon 3, I am using Yumiyacha (Ranged type) as my primary Uberhero class and switched it to Wondabarappa who shoots crap out of a magical tuba. I might finally start on Dissidia 012 Duodecim: Final Fantasy this week. I will also play and hopefully finish today the fourth episode of Back To The Future: The Game which is entitled "Double Visions".

Wii successor confirmed by Nintendo

Today, Nintendo confirmed in an official statement the upcoming release of the Wii's yet unnamed successor.

The new console will go on sale in 2012 and will have its debut on this year's E3 in Los Angeles probably with playable demo of the machine.

April 25, 2011

To whom it may concern:

Re: Wii's successor system

Nintendo Co., Ltd. has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011.

We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles.

Sales of this new system have not been included in the financial forecasts announced today for the fiscal term ending March 2012.

Weekend, what are you playing

The weekend is here again. What are you playing?

Migoy: Beat the original Dissidia 013 story and did the reports that I've unlocked. Gotta grind before I can face 000. Just unlocked Prishe and Gilgamesh and they are fun to use. Also booted up Muramasa The Demon Blade on the Wii. I beat Kisuke's story last year but stopped at half of Momohime's story. Dammit, I want the Momohime figure again.

Arlie: I just finished Portal 2 yesterday. The whole game was really fun. For those who haven't played it yet, you have to at least give it a try! From GLaDOS' sarcastic lines and fat jokes to Wheatley's British humor who is actually voiced by Stephen Merchant (Hot Fuzz, The Ricky Gervais Show). Having a NPC companion who blabs too much really adds to the experience. I also liked the ending song. Watch out for those hidden easter eggs.

Portal: "The cake is a lie."

Portal 2: "The deer is a lie."

I don't want to spoil any more shit to you guys, but all I can say is "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, holy fuck you're in space!"

You can watch parts of my playthrough here. (4 hours total including long pauses for pee breaks)

Quash: Did a full Mortal Kombat marathon! We started off by watching the first Mortal Kombat movie(hilarious) then we popped in the new Mortal Kombat and did an all day 4 player tag versus matches. We were set to watch the second movie but couldn't stop playing. It was technically 2 versus 2 and the tagging system seemed similar to Tekken Tag's tagging system, pressing one button swaps in your teammate.

It was a lot of fun and we were constantly shouting at each other because there's no coordination with the tagging at all. Some people just tag themselves out without telling their teammate catching them off-guard or them eating a X-Ray. When i got back home i continued to play some more Mortal Kombat. Did a few challenges in the Challenge Tower(up to 45 now) and practiced with Nightwolf. He might actually be my main character for Mortal Kombat.

Great game and i'll have a full review on it soon.

Project Cafe leaked image?

Personally, I think it looks like something Microsoft would release. I have never seen a black Nintendo console as a initial release.

From: [Destructoid]

We've been inundated with all sorts of mock-ups and leakages concerning Project Cafe, the rumored HD console being developed by Nintendo. The latest development is this supposedly leaked image, found on various forums and image hosts around the 'net.

"Project Cafe is simply the most developer friendly SDK the industry has ever seen," reads the text accompanying the image. "Deliver unparalleled next generation performance at current generation costs. It doesn't get any easier than this."

The image also boasts easy portability from PC and Xbox 360, as well as the ability to update games at any time and an integrated M-Live framework.

As with everything concerning Project Cafe, don't take the picture as incontrovertible truth. Looks pretty slick though, right? What do you reckon?

There are also rumors that it'll be called 'Stream'. I hope that isn't true.
