Recent Buys: Episode 26 - Steelbook Rinoa

RB26 A new month usually means a new video game purchase for me, be it a new game or an old game.

This time, I snag myself a steelbook copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (pre-ultimate) because I am a sucker for steelbooks. Also I buy little Rinoa toy to go with my Squall figure and I also print custom covers for some of my PS3 games because of reasons.

Migoy Has Never Beaten Super Mario Bros.

smbYes, this is true. I have never beaten the oringinal Super Mario Bros. on the NES/Famicom. To be fair, I haven't really tried to beat the game yet. I usually just play until the first warp pipe then when the nostalgia wears off, I shut off the game.

When I was growing up, the original Famicom that we had broke before I really got a chance to play on it. So my folks got me one of the NES clones called "Super Family Computer" which is just a NES in a SNES body. The controllers had four face buttons on it which X and Y were turbo buttons of A and B. When they got me that, the old games we used to have were either sold or already given away so my mom bought me one game and it was Mega Man 6. Rockman 6 to be exact. One of my neighbors (he was around 5 years older than me) found out that I got a new NES and gave me a sack, a literal sack, filled with his old NES cartridges. Among them were Rockman's 1-4, I got 5 from another neighbor. A ton of other games were also in there such as Super Mario Bros. 1-3, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!, Spy vs Spy, Battle City, so on and so forth.

I was in the situation where I had quite the number of games to choose from and wasn't forced to just grind away at this one game that I owned. If I lost interest in a game, I would just simply pop in another one. I really enjoyed Super Mario Bros. back in the day but I had been exposed to a lot of more refined games before  I really got to play it. Aside from the shortcut pipe and hidden 1-Up in world 1-1 and the warp pipes in world 1-2, I don't really know anymore secrets in the original Super Mario Bros. One day I'll sit down and try to beat the game legit, no warp pipes. But for now, here's a vid of me playing SMB while I messed around with a NES emulator.

In my defense I did beat Super Mario Land on the original GameBoy.

Dead Rising 3's new CG trailer got me laughing at the end

Dead-Rising-3-header Capcom released a new trailer for their Xbox One exclusive title Dead Rising 3. It's CG and shows all the gore and foul language you'd want out of a game like this. Towards the end though, got me laughing on how silly it is.

IGN featured the new CG trailer, and I gotta say -- What he made at the end completely threw me off guard.

At this point, I need more information about Dead Rising 3. The switch from a bright and over the top tone seen in the previous game to a more dark and sort of serious tone was actually a turn off. A bit too brownish for my taste. The in-game gameplay shown in this year's E3 was impressive -- Having that many zombies in once screen was amazing. Even the car slowing down since there are too many zombies was a good touch, but is there something new to really hype things up? Sorry, nothing so far.

Dead Rising 3 is planned for a November 2013 release, possibly making it a launch title for the Xbox One. Does this game entice you to get an Xbox One? Because I have another game in mind that's making me consider one.

Weekend! What are you playing?

55230_screenshots_2013-08-14_00001 Weekend! ah, the taste of freshly brewed coffee on a Saturday morning. This week was pretty hectic but we are finally at the tail-end of it all. So much going on in this world of video games; Quake-con, GTA online reveal, plus Gamescom is just around the corner. But enough about that, what are you playing?

Carlos: For the first time in a long time I find myself in a serious case of backlog. So many games left unfinished. There's so much I want to play right now but I just don't have the time. I want to play Saint's Row: The Third to finally finish the game once in for all. I want to play some more Guild Wars 2 since I'm so close to my first legendary. I also want to jump back in Bordlerlands 2 since I have three DLC contents left to explore. I also want to go back to Mark of the Ninja since I'm at the final stages.

I don't usually juggle games, but it happens every once in awhile. Oh, I also started Dead Space 3 because of that damn Humble Origins Bundle. Damn you EA.

Migoy: I'll be at the Hotseat booth at OtakuExpo for the Injustice tournament and various other video games. I also haven't played enough of NieR yet so Imma get on that.

Arlie: Arlie is actually on vacation this week. He's currently in Singapore having a blast, and also in search of a place to find video games apparently.
